Russian hockey team’s head coach Vyacheslav Bykov spoke to russian sport press after the last training session before NHL players’ arrival to Vancouver.
"Russia’s main philosophy for the Olympics is our desire to win gold medals", Bykov began. "We have been working with these players for four years and we are sure that they understand all coaches’ requirements".
"They perfectly know that team success is always on the first place and when they come to the national team squad they are aware that it’s necessary to play for the whole team and create right atmosphere".
"Sixteen players out of twenty-three are the World Championship gold medallists and they know how to beat Canadian team in Canada. But our extended 50-men list was not accidental too, because we had worked with those players and we were sure of them".
"I am absolutely convinced that these players are real patriots of their country. They know value of victory and hard work, which is necessary to apply for this victory".
"I cannot compare our generation with generation of players of 1990s because I played in the national team only in the first half of that decade and didn’t play in Russia at all. That team also had ambitious guys who wanted to show themselves. These two situations are different, but what unites two generations is players’ desire to win".
"I don’t think that it’s right to compare generations, since there were different people, different time and hockey. Each of them is interesting, each of them had its leaders, targets and dreams, however there is no sense in saying which of them is better or worse. It’s a wrong approach".
